Muhurat trading Diwali 2011: Top 10 mid-cap stocks worth buying this 'Samvat 2068'
Indian markets open each year to let traders make the auspicious Muhurat trade as the ring in the new Samvat. It is on this day that traders often reflect on the year that went by and see how they fared since the last Deepawali. This year from one Deepawali to another, there's not much to write about. Indian markets traded close to their all time highs last year when traders took their Muhurat punts and this time they are way off those high levels. The Indian markets are currently going through tumultuous times once again in a short span of three years from low's of 2008 in the backdrop of global concerns. The markets seem to have come to terms with the fact that, in light of such constraints, India's GDP growth is likely to be more like 7-7.5% in the near term rather than the aspired over 9%. According RBI's recent policy statement, India's GDP growth decelerated to 7.7 per cent in Q1 (April-June) of 2011-12 from 8.8 per cent a year ago, and 7.8 per cent in Q4 of 2010-11. The slowdown was on account of slower growth in mining, manufacturing, construction and 'community, social and personal services'. Here are top mid-cap picks by analysts and brokerage houses that investors may use it to invest in 'Samvat 2068'

The central bank has said banks will have to offer a uniform rate of interest on savings bank deposits up to Rs 1 lakh, and for anything above that, they may provide differential rates of interest. The current savings rate is 4%, which was last raised in May after it remained unchanged for as long as eight years. However, on the downside, customers may not benefit if banks choose to pay interest on average balances maintained on a quarterly or a monthly basis, which may negate the benefit of higher rates. As of now, interest rate is paid on daily balances. While bigger banks such as the State Bank of India,HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank - which have a healthy share of savings and current account ( CASA) deposits - may not raise interest on savings deposits, smaller private banks are likely to do so. A hike in savings account will help banks improve their share of low-cost deposits. YES Bank, a new generation private bank for instance, has been the first to take the lead and has hiked savings deposits rate to 6% to attract more customers. SBI chairman Pratip Chaudhuri said the country's largest bank will not revise savings bank deposit rate, at least immediately. "Already customers are optimising their savings account by using facilities like sweep or parking in FD or mutual funds." But Kotak Mahindra Bank executive vice-chairman and MD Uday Kotak told a news channel: "Customers will get a higher rate on savings account."
It's Diwali again and traders are busy gearing up for the customary 'Muhurat trading', a tradition unique to India where markets open for a short while in the evening on the day the country celebrates the festival of lights.

Mid-term policy review: Your funds in savings a/cs will now fetch you more
Ending years of controlled interest rate regime, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) deregulated savings deposit interest rate, a move which will push up the cost of funds for banks. Individual depositors, though, will benefit from this as a number of banks may raise interest rates.
